Drought conditions are continuing to increase across the Carolinas, and the bad news is rain is not in the forecast.
Most of central NC is currently in stage D1 drought, which is a moderate drought. This area continues to increase because we have not had any major rainfall the past few weeks. Also, much of NC is under a D0 drought, which is abnormally dry conditions.
The bad news is with the continued northerly flow bringing cooler than average temperatures to the Carolinas, the chance of rain remains low. I expect the drought conditions will continue to worsen through the first part of January.
